Holstenplatz - The original since 1973
The Christmas market on Holstenplatz has a fresh new look and traditionally attracts visitors for a winter stroll with a balanced mix of arts and crafts, punch and delicacies.
This year for the 50th time!
Even when it's cold or the weather in Northern Germany is cold, Holstenplatz remains cosy. Once again, many shining stars hang over the square and the illuminated canopy creates a Christmassy atmosphere on the market square.
In addition to delicious food and drink at over 50 stalls, the Kiel Christmas market also includes warming up together, strolling around and getting into the mood for a wonderful Christmas season.
Winter forest at Holstenplatz
Holstenplatz is partly transformed into a cosy winter forest with bar tables to linger at and many illuminated Christmas trees. A total of 99 LED stars hang in the trees on Holstenplatz and Asmus-Bremer-Platz. Around one kilometer of LED garland with thousands of light points also decorate the gables of the Christmas market stalls. The popular Rudi selfie point is back in the winter forest this year - there are also 4 other animal-shaped selfie points. The Christmas house is located on the Schevenbrücke bridge this year.

Opening hours:
Sun. - Wed. 11:00 am - 8:00 pm
Thu. - Sat. 11:00 am - 9:00 pm
The catering stands are free to extend the opening hours by 1 hour if the market is well attended.
Special dates
On 27, 28, 29.11 and 5, 6.12: Acrobatic show with Kiel Face of TuS Holtenau from 4-6 pm (Holstenstraße at Schevenbrücke)
On Advent Sundays: Puppet theater at 2, 3 and 4 pm (Holstenstraße at Schevenbrücke)
and a visit from Father Christmas from 3-5 pm
On Sun. 10.12: Advent carol singing with the Kiel brass ensemble at 4 pm (under the canopy)
On Sat. 2, 9, 16 and 23.12: Read aloud & crafts for kids at 1 pm (lounge at the Schütt family's punch stand)
